Essential Job Functions:
● Administer first aid
● Keep accurate records of information given by parents or guardians
● Assist in vision, hearing screening if certified and follow-up on referrals
● Maintain school health records
● Administer medication and treatments pursuant to school policy
● Provide G-tube care in daily feedings and medication administration
● Monitor students who have received medication and treatment (seizure prone and
cardiac at-risk students)
● Assist in implementing toileting programs
● Accompany staff on field trips, athletic programs, and community training when
at-risk students are included
● Conduct inservice to assist staff in understanding student health issues
● Work closely with staff so health and hygiene practices are followed
● Perform nursing acts as required in the students’ IEP’s
● Assist parents in understanding student health issues
● Work closely with parents and appropriate public/private agencies so specific
student health and hygiene practices are followed
● Identify student health problems, make and follow-up on referrals for diagnosis, treatment, and remediation
● Follow-up on health care and safety modifications to the student’s IEP
● Assist in implementing communicable disease prevention and control programs
● Assist in implementing accident prevention programs
● Assist instructional personnel in planning and presenting lessons on healthy
lifestyles and making healthy decisions to improve health and safety

Requirements:
The professional registered/licensed nurse must hold a valid Registered/Licensed
Professional Nurse License in accordance with the Illinois Nursing Act (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1987,
ch. 111, par. 3401 et seq.) whose license is active and in good standing as determined by the
Illinois Department of Professional Regulations and must hold, or be willing to receive
training to hold, Vision Screening Technician and Audiometric Technician Licenses from the
Illinois Department of Public Health. Maintain a current CPR certification. Must be willing to
receive training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) and participate in interventions as
needed.
