May Town Hall Meeting – Collecting and Submitting School Health Data
Speaker: Dena Hinkle DNP, MEd, APRN, NCSN, IL PEL-CSN, FNP-BC
A recent evaluation of Illinois school health metric data submitted to the National Association of School Nurses’ National School Health Data Set: Every Student Counts! revealed that a very small percentage of Illinois school nurses submitted data for the 2018-2019 school year. The purpose of this DNP study was to identify the factors that promote or inhibit Illinois school nurses from submitting aggregated data to the national dataset at the end of the school year. The findings suggest that Illinois school nurses who already collect health office data via an electronic health record still experience barriers to submitting that data to Every Student Counts! An awareness of potential facilitators and barriers will assist with the development and implementation of a variety of resources that will promote increased participation in submitting data to the dataset with the aim of improving student health, safety and readiness to learn.
