Morris Community High School is seeking applicants for a School Nurse for the 2026-2027 school year due to an upcoming retirement. The school nurse provides services to the students (approximately 900) with support provided by a nurse’s office assistant. In addition, the nurse provides education and training to the District’s employees, manages school health records and screenings, and participates in the development of health-related policies and procedures, among other duties. The nurse also serves as an integral member of the student services team.
Currently, the nurse’s work schedule includes the 180 days of the school year plus 16 extended contract days during the summer.
Qualifications
It is preferred that candidates have an Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a School Nurse endorsement. However, registered nurses who do not have a PEL will also be given full consideration.
Salary/Benefits
Candidates holding a PEL are paid according to the salary schedule in the collective bargaining agreement for certified employees, which can be found here. Candidates who do not have a PEL will start at a base salary of at least $32 per hour, potentially higher based on the candidate’s experience.
All employees must take at least single coverage insurance. The District provides $14,100 to each employee to put toward insurance, with any remaining balance paid as salary.
Additional Notes
While the position officially begins with the 2026-2027 school year, the opportunity exists for the selected candidate to start sooner in order to work some overlapping time with the current nurse, who will be retiring in May 2026.
How to Apply
To apply, please send a letter of interest, a resume, and a list of references or letters of recommendation to Dr. Craig Ortiz, Superintendent, at cortiz@morrishs.org for consideration. The position is open until filled, so interested candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, with interviews potentially being scheduled at any time.
