ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Administer first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures
  • Administer medication and treatment as prescribed by physicians
  • Assess students with illness and document evaluation/outcome of students
  • Review student physicals for compliance for State of Illinois laws
  • Complete State of Illinois compliance report
  • Contact parents of students that are not in compliance
  • Document noncompliance with letter
  • Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools
  • Serves as liaison between school and community regarding student health issues
  • Complete appropriate forms for students eligible or suspected of being eligible for special education and related services
  • Assist students with special needs
  • Maintain health records with all health related issues

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:  Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or an accredited program to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN would also need to have taken a class in pharmacology as approved by the State of Illinois).

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff or students.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:  License from the State of Illinois to practice as a Registered Nurse or a Licensed Practical Nurse.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board of Education policies.
