TITLE: Building Nurse

RN/BS $30.00/hour
RN $28.00/hour
LPN $25.00/hour

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Registered Nurse: Must hold the Medical Review for IEPs designation obtained prior to July 1, 2016 or hold an Illinois Professional Educator License for School Nurse
2. Vision and Hearing Screening Technician preferred
3. Possesses current CPR and AED Certification
4. Ability to read, write, speak and communicate effectively and fluently in English
5. Competent in utilizing a computer using an office productivity suite like Microsoft Office (including Microsoft Word) or Google Apps for Education.
6. Demonstrated compassion, patience and teamwork
7. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Physical Requirements:
1. Standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching,
handling, pushing, pulling is required
2. Lifting and moving 60 lbs.

REPORTS TO: Building administrator(s) and Assistant Superintendent for Special Services

JOB GOAL:
– To assist administration in providing a quality health program
– To assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate the health care needs of students and staff

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Reports to work on time
2. Demonstrates consistent and reliable attendance
3. Reads and responds to district/building communications in a timely manner and within any explicitly defined deadlines
4. Keeps current with communications and notifications from the Illinois Public Health Department regarding student and school health issues and requirements
5. Assesses injuries and administers First Aid in accordance with first aid procedures and dispenses and monitors medication use and reactions in accordance with the Recommended Guidelines for Medication Administration in Schools
6. Updates and implements the district’s Health and Accident/Injury Procedures
7. Implements the health and nursing accommodations and/or modifications of student’s Individualized Education Plan and 504 Plans
8. Maintains accurate and complete student health records and documentation in accordance with HIPAA and OSHA guidelines and district policy
9. Enforces School Code policy for exclusion of students found to be not in compliance with state requirements
10. Participates in District screening programs including but not limited to scheduled vision/hearing and Child Find screenings and evaluation
11. Organizes health office and classrooms in accordance with OSHA guidelines, maintains and orders supplies
12. Conducts Medical Reviews (health evaluations) for students being considered for special education/504 Plans in accordance to Rule 226.160 (Illinois State School Code)
13. Makes recommendations for the purpose of determining the medical, school health, and/or school nurse services that should be provided during the school day; and developing a proposed plan that provides for specific accommodations, modifications, or interventions to be implemented when educationally relevant medical, school health, and/or school nurse findings are made, which shall include annual goals, short-term objectives, and ongoing evaluation
14. Tracks communicable diseases in the school and reports incidents in accordance with health department guidelines
15. Distributes health communications and notices via school/district website and/or in written form to students, staff, and parents/guardians in a timely manner
16. Makes follow-up referrals for diagnosis and treatment of health related conditions to parents
17. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality
18. Demonstrates effective management of his/her time and schedules
19. Implements and follows the District’s Health and Accident/Injury Procedures and Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
20. Supports and implements the District’s Risk Management Policy to ensure that statutory and common law health and safety rights are extended to all visitors, employees, and students, to provide careful supervision and protection of all District real and personal property
21. Conducts himself/herself as a role model for students
22. Participates in professional development/training programs as directed by building or district administrator(s)
23. Completes all District required trainings and adheres to all Board policies and procedures
24. Performs additional job duties as assigned by the building /district administrator(s)
